The
South Carolina Marine Educators Association (SCMEA)
is an enthusiastic, dynamic, and dedicated team of educators,
naturalists, and scientists who recognize the importance of marine and aquatic
education and the vital role it plays in increasing public awareness and
understanding of marine and aquatic environments. Formed in 1988 as a non-profit
educational organization, SCMEA is a chapter of the National Marine Educators
Association (NMEA) and is the largest network of people working together
to improve and expand marine and aquatic education opportunities in South
Carolina. Members represent a broad range of interests and professions,
including:

SCMEA MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
Newsletters – SCMEA’s newsletter, Seascripts, is filled with
current information in the field of marine education and what’s
happening with SCMEA. It is mailed to members four times a year.
Grants and Scholarships – SCMEA offers marine education grants to
provide support for projects conducted by members that will further marine
and aquatic education in South Carolina. SCMEA also awards scholarships
for members to attend both the annual state SCMEA conference and the National
Marine Educators Association’s annual conference. Thanks to South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium for their support to grants and scholarships.
Annual Spring and Fall SCMEA Conference – SCMEA’s annual conference offers
opportunities for participants to network and gather a wealth of information,
energy, and excitement about our water world.
