The South Carolina Marine Educators Association (SCMEA)
SCMEA was formed in 1988 as a non-profit educational organization and is a chapter of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA). SCMEA strives to improve and expand marine and aquatic education opportunities in South Carolina. Members represent a broad range of interests and professions, including:
- classroom teachers
- college and university professors
- naturalists
- museum and aquarium specialists
- research scientists
- government officials
- representatives from private industry
- anyone with a love of marine science

Jacques Cousteau Award applications
The SCMEA scholarship chair is now accepting applications for the Jacques Cousteau Award. This award provides travel assistance to SCMEA members planning on attending the 2012 NMEA conference in Anchorage, Alaska. The deadline to apply for this award is April 1, 2012.
