Who Are We?

SCMEA was formed in 1988 as a non-profit educational organization and is a chapter of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA). 

Members represent a broad range of interests and professions found throughout our state, including:
- classroom teachers  
- college and university professors 
- naturalists  
- museum and aquarium specialists  
- research scientists 
- government officials
- representatives from private industry
- anyone with a love of marine science

Vision: As a regional chapter of the National Marine Educators Association, the South Carolina Marine Educators Association is making known the world of water, both fresh and salt. 

Mission: SCMEA exists to connect professionals from across the state by providing opportunities for growth and collaboration between classroom teachers, informal educators, and the scientific community to help promote the preservation of aquatic environments.
