Mary Edna has flown and photographed the entire East Coast and most of the West Coast of America, as well as several countries overseas. She has visited 31 National Parks in her 66 years. Photographing from the air, studying maps and satellite imagery, and exploring on the ground inform her work as an environmental artist whose career is devoted to the protection of public landscapes.
Her fascination with the distinctive features of various regions has led her to examine barrier islands, river deltas, mountains, glaciers, and threatened landscapes around the world. Satellite and space imagery have further expanded her range of content. Fraser’s methods also employ painting on location as inspiration for large-scale works, displaying grand vistas and the beauty of a specific place in time. She is known for working with a variety of media, from batiks to oil, to printmaking methods such as monotypes. |
Fraser is currently engaged in a series of in-depth studies that will become a traveling exhibition, highlighting our country’s most cherished preserves. She spent two weeks as artist-in-residence at Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park, completing fourteen oils and a series of larger scale works.
